Founders and History
Founded by: Katharina Traut and Maria Ulrich
Location: Herbrazhofen, a small village near Leutkirch in the Württemberg Allgäu, below Schloss Zeil castle
Farmstead built: 1853, then owned by the Prince of Schloss Zeil
Family ownership: three generations, acquired by the grandfather
Renovation: planning began in 2022; design and site management by one of the founders (BA in Architecture, Master of Engineering in Project Management)
Further experience on the team: many years as a store manager at H&M, today responsible for service in the bistro
The offering comprises apartments, a bistro and events. Alongside holiday guests, companies use the farmstead for multi-day workshops with accommodation.
On request, guests can meet the horses kept on the farm. There are arrangements with a bicycle rental service that delivers bikes, and with a working farm open to visits.

tobel1853 can be booked exclusively for company events, team retreats and private celebrations. The whole tobel — all six apartments, the historic barn room (Stube with vaulted ceiling), the bistro with full kitchen and the garden — is yours for the duration of your booking.

Next door the tenne with the bar seats another 10 — together up to 42 people at the table. Technology: large TV screen and flip chart on site, projector on request, Wi-Fi throughout. Plus the stubn for breakout rounds (7 to 10 people on floor cushions), the garden, and a fitness area with sauna on the ground floor.

Discount from 7 nights, individual long-stay rates from 14 nights. The bistro is closed Monday to Wednesday, which makes those days particularly quiet.
Retreats — www.tobel1853.de/en/tobel-exclusive/retreats. For hosts and facilitators. The barn as practice room: 12 to 14 people on mats, 20 to 25 in a chair circle, up to 30 with other seating. Catering in the tenne, vegetarian and vegan. Occupancy either 9 single rooms or 18 beds across 9 rooms. There are currently no own retreats open for individual booking.

Music until 10pm, quieter afterwards out of consideration for the neighbours. Own cake possible against a plate fee. Dogs and children welcome, parking free right at the farmstead.

Walk up to Schloss Zeil and the Josefskapelle, cycling along the river Argen, skydiving at Unterzeil airfield, balloon rides, alpaca hikes at the Günztal alpaca farm, summer toboggan runs at Hündle and the Alpsee Coaster. Lake Constance is about 60 minutes away, Erkheim 30.
Terms and Conditions
Exclusive means exclusive: with a full booking the tobel belongs to the booking group alone — no other guests, no walk-in trade. Weekdays are easiest, weekends are possible on request.
Sauna and fitness area are included, usable from 6am to 8pm. Guests heat the sauna themselves.
On request we arrange the programme around it: a host for a round of bingo, yoga or pilates sessions with our trainers, or a guided bike tour. What works depends on the size of the group.
Tax note (Germany): EUR 110 gross per person and company event is tax-free, twice a year.

Six holiday apartments with nine bedrooms in total (up to ~18 overnight guests). The Gipfelstürmer apartment sleeps up to 6, the smaller ones are made for 2. Individual bedrooms can be assigned as the event requires.
